Futurity Owners & Breeders Investment Scheme NCHA GOLD FOBIS is a non-profit scheme formed to promote and enhance the Cutting Horse industry by increasing funds to add to the prize money purse for the NCHA Futurity and Non Pro Futurity whilst expanding public interest in the Sport of Cutting as a result of increased prize money.
The data received from FOBIS entries will enable the NCHA Board of Directors to plan for the future of the industry by providing yearly numbers of horses bred for cutting. FOBIS data adds to the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the NCHA office as well as providing the membership with information on horses bred for the sport through the NCHA web site.
Eligibility No one is obliged to take part and there is no restriction on the breed or colour of the horse if you do wish to become a part of the scheme. However, horses that are entered in FOBIS are eligible to a discounted entry fee into the NCHA Open and Non Pro Futurity as well as a guaranteed FOBIS bonus payment if they reach the final. FOBIS registration is now a criterion for entering all NCHA Select Sales.
Money Distribution Funds raised through the program will be distributed between the NCHA Open and Non Pro Futurities as added money and distributed between all the finalists who are registered in FOBIS. Monies will be added on a pro-rata basis, depending on the number of entries in each event.
Purchasing a Horse If you purchase a registered FOBIS horse fees, have already been paid by the Nominator. However, if you buy a horse that is not nominated in FOBIS you can enter the horse in the scheme. If you are not and have never been a member of the NCHA and purchase a horse that is not nominated for FOBIS you can enter the horse in FOBIS at a fee of $82.50 but if you are a member of the NCHA or have been a member you will need to pay a late fee determined on the age of the horse purchased. (See Number 2 under mare owners)
Mare Owners 1. On or before July 31st of each year the mare owner pays a one time fee of $55 that will nominate the foal that will be born after August 1st of that year.
2. If the mare is not nominated before July 31st, the cost will be $275 until the foal is two years old (as at 1/8). After the foal’s 2nd birthday, a fee of $550 can be paid to enter the horse in FOBIS at anytime. Futurity payments made prior to entering in FOBIS at the fee of $550 will not be refunded at the reduced FOBIS rate, but any payment made after registration will receive the reduced FOBIS rate.
3. If you breed to a Stallion whose owner is not contributing to the FOBIS program, you will need to pay the $55 Mare Nomination fee plus the stallion owner’s contribution of $27.50.
4. If your mare does not produce a foal the year that you have nominated her you must supply a Vet Certificate stating that she has lost the foal and your nomination will be refunded. Or you can carry over the fee to the next season for the same mare. If that mare is deemed to be infertile, the fee will be refunded.
5. Mare owners will receive a notification that their mare has nominated the mating for each year when the payment of $55 is received in the office. After the foal is born the mare owner must send to the office the completed registration form or a copy of a breed registration paper. The office will then send a certificate of GOLD FOBIS registration for your records.
